CEBC vs. AEWP
Each of the two application essay guidance options are great options for students. They can choose either of the two options based on their preferences and availability. Below is how the two programs compare:
Scheduling Flexibility and Time Efficiency
Students in the College Essay Boot Camp will start and finish their personal statement within three days, before the school year starts. This way, they can move onto their supplemental essays through the Application Essay Writing Program and focus on their school work without feeling the anxiety of falling behind. Plus, students who are currently participating in time-intensive activities, internships, or test prep can focus on the most of those activities before starting the personal statement and the essay writing process.
Students who opt out of the College Essay Boot Camp to start with the Application Essay Writing Program or Road Map to College right away may start their essay meetings immediately, and will be able to choose their own frequency of meetings. However, the personal statement takes approximately 6 sessions to complete due to the following reasons:
- Most high schools do not train students to write in the personal narrative, so students need to learn about this new genre of writing.
- Students need to forge a relationship with their essay coach in order to truly open up and discuss topics that will be valuable to discuss in their personal statement.
- The personal statement is the most difficult but most important essay of the entire application, as it is submitted to all schools that a student applies to.
The Application Essay Writing Program is offered virtually, as well as in-person at our Closter and Palisades Park campuses, and the College Essay Boot Camp is offered solely in-person at our Closter campus.
The College Essay Boot Camp provides an intensive atmosphere with quick feedback and high expectations. In addition, CEBC students attend group workshops to receive more in-depth guidance about what makes for an effective personal narrative.
On the other hand, because the Application Essay Writing Program is a completely one-on-one program, students are only exposed to the perspective of their assigned essay coach, and they are given more time to work on drafts between meetings.
What happens after CEBC?
Students can enroll in the Application Essay Writing Program to complete their supplemental essays, or the Road Map to College program, which will provide comprehensive guidance through the entire application.
The Road Map to College program includes both college counseling and application essay meetings to cover all aspects of the college application. Students receive guidance on the following agenda items:
- Application essays
- College list
- Application strategy
- Resume content and building
- Interview practice
- Test score submission
- Application review and submission
- Regular Decision application strategy
ACS programs will help high schoolers craft college applications which catch the eye of admissions officers and get into top universities.
Students who sign up for the CEBC and fill out this preliminary information form by August 12th will get a $250 discount on tuition. Seats are limited!
