CTY PREPJohns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) Prep |
Our CTY Prep course is designed for 7th and 8th graders, who seek eligibility for Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth, by earning an advanced qualifying score on the December SAT.
CTY is a nonprofit organization providing vital programs and resources for the development of their most gifted students. Their most well-known program is their Summer Program, bringing together academically exceptional children for an intensive three-week academic and social experience.
To qualify for CTY, students must earn a qualifying score for their grade level on the SAT, ACT, SCAT, or STB standardized tests.
Qualifying scores are the following:
• 7th grade: 520 SAT score on each section,
reflecting ability 4 grade levels above current grade
• 8th grade: 570 SAT score on each section,
reflecting ability 4 grade levels above current grade
MEK Review equips students with the right tools to take big leaps in their SAT scores. Our teachers guide them with expert instruction, key materials, and a strategic approach to hitting target scores.
We monitor student progress and build up test-taking skills through full-length, professional College Board tests that simulate test-day environments.
Our expert teachers teach students how to strategically tackle the test, helping them to recognize and prioritize question types, among other savvy approaches.
We offer detailed score reports that analyze student performance data after each practice test, a powerful tool that pinpoints areas of weaknesses and improvement.
We teach students to take ownership of their progress through regular monitoring and persistent communications on improvements, weaknesses, and mindset.
Students receive benchmarks (mini-tests), skill drills, quizzes, and other key assignments to intimately learn SAT exam content and monitor their short-term progress.
For many middle-schoolers, this is their first experience with a high-pressure standardized test. We teach them how handle the pressure, be mentally tough, and avoid silly mistakes.
Our CTY Prep group course starts in September in preparation for the December SAT. Official start and end dates will be announced in Summer 2020. To maximize results, we strongly recommend that students begin on the start date.
I got into Princeton! I just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you for all the hard work done on your part and the constant support I received. I would not be here had you guys not believed in me.

“With your professional and kind guidance, our son received a very high score in the writing part of the PARCC test. He has improved significantly since taking classes at MEK.”
— JENNIE C. (PARENT)
Although it was an intensive program and it took up most of my summer, my improvements are clear, and I’m much more confident going in and taking the test than I was before the program.
