MEK Learning Circles Spring 2025 Student Surveys
The Spring MEK Learning Circles program, designed for students in grades 4 thru 8, successfully concluded its 18-week session this spring. With 355 students enrolled in 58 courses across Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, the program aimed to give students knowledge of class topics in reading, writing, and math and strategies they can apply to their courses outside of MEK. Student Reflections and Feedback
Student comments provided valuable insights into their learning experience.
For MLC English courses, students mentioned advancing their vocabulary, reading a variety of story types, and the essay feedback they received as highlights of their course experience. By exposing students to different types of stories and storytelling, they are enhancing their writing practice, building their vocabulary, and improving their reading comprehension.
MEK English instructors were commended for their patience and wit. Students felt supported by their instructors who took time to share detailed notes and examples for clarification, give extra time to challenging topics, and help students through difficulties with content.
For MLC Math courses, students were pleased with the progress they made by the end of the course. They noted challenging materials, timed assessments, and lectures that covered multiple topics as aiding in their success. Through rigorous course experiences that heighten the stakes, students are asked to meet high levels of expectation. The more students are exposed to these experiences, the more comfortable and confident they become when faced with them in their classes both in and outside of MEK.
MEK instructors were praised for their humor, kindness, and content knowledge. Students felt encouraged by their instructors to share and participate. These interactive learning environments made class engaging and fostered positive relationships between classmates.
Looking Ahead
Following the completion of this course, students are now prepared to advance to the next level of MLC and beyond, depending on their grade level and goals. The learning experience, strategies, and skills they’ve acquired serve as a strong springboard for the next level of MLC and for future academic success that translates to their classes outside of MEK.
