Student of the Week: Olivia Huang, Grade 8

Student of the Week

Each week of summer, MEK Review teachers nominate a student to be awarded Student of the Week. This student is chosen due to his or her amazing performance, inspiring improvement, or great attitude in our Summer courses.

For Week 7, our teachers nominated Olivia Huang from our Algebra 2 class!

“[Olivia] always picks up the first pieces of a new lesson quickly, and asks very pointed questions to help her figure out the rest of the hard stuff. She’s done a few of the supplemental classwork exercises, which is above and beyond dedication to doing well in the course.”

~Nicholas Lang, Algebra 2

Meet Olivia

Out of over 545 students, Olivia was chosen by her teachers to be Student of the Week because she goes the extra mile, knows how to get to the heart of the material, and is an overall great student!

Let’s learn a little bit more about our Student of the Week:

What do you like about your MEK classes so far?

I like how my MEK class has helped me build a strong foundation in my Algebra II skills while providing a fun challenge for me this summer. I appreciated the fact that the teachers were accessible and available to answer my quesitons outside of class through emails when necessary.

What have you learned so far?

I’ve learned how to find extraneous roots, rationalize fractions, and utilize the imaginary number “i” in multiple problems. Out of all of these topics, I most enjoyed solving logarithms because they were like mathematical puzzles for me to unscramble.

What is your favorite subject in school?

My all-time favorite subjects in school are math and science because they apply so much to our everyday lives, and the subjects are fascinating in general. In math, I enjoy learning about polynomials, and in science, I like to learn about weather phenomena.

What activities do you like to do outside of MEK and school?

Outside of MEK, I like to practice my flute and glockenspiel. I also enjoy gardening, tae kwon do, and playing tennis with my family.

Way to go, Olivia!

We’re so proud of our hardworking Student of the Week. We can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish next!

What’s a glockenspiel, you ask?
