Exam Prep 8: Test Content Learning 

One of MEK’s most popular courses is Exam Prep 8. The reason parents and students continuously sign up for Exam Prep 8 is because they know it works! Each year, our students get into the top high schools in the region, many of them attending private schools with full scholarships. 

Exam Prep 8 is targeted towards 8th graders planning on applying to BCA, BT, and/or private/specialized high schools. The curriculum includes: 

• Verbal reasoning & reading comprehension 
• Quantitative reasoning & problem-solving math 
• Developing strong number sense and algebraic literacy through targeted practice and strong reinforcement of algebraic concepts 
• Building critical reading and writing skills to have a strong foundation for future test training in a pressured environment 

Format: Virtual and in-person at Palisades Park and Closter 

Length: 7 weeks, 21 sessions 

Exam Prep 8 covers content tested on the following high school admissions tests: 

• Bergen County Academies (BCA)/Bergen Tech (BT) 
• SSAT: Upper Level 
• ISEE: Upper Level

BCA/BT Prep Test Clinics 

This summer, we’re offering our brand-new test prep clinics for high school admissions! MEK’s BCA/BT Clinics are for students who are certain about applying to the Bergen County Academies and Bergen Tech. The BCA/BT Prep Test Clinics are the perfect way to get a taste for what the Entrance Exam looks like and start building the skills required for high testing performance. With potential changes to the BCA/BT Entrance Exam date, these Test Clinics are the key to being prepared for any test date, no matter how early.

In MEK’s many years of experience, we’ve seen that students require time to learn the content and make the transformative shift into active test-takers who are critical and creative. That’s why it’s important to get started in the summer. The best candidates for this clinic are students who have taken Exam Prep 8 in the Spring, but anyone with interest can join.

During this test clinic, students will: 

• Take and review weekly full-length English and Math simulation tests 
• Experience actual testing environments and pressures 
• Target test-specific skills and strategies 
• Get comfortable with the test setting before the Fall BCA/BT Prep Program starts 

Length: 7 weeks, 7 sessions per subject (English and Math) 

Format: In-person at Closter and Palisades Park 

SSAT/ISEE 8: Test Training 

MEK’s SSAT/ISEE 8 course is for students entering 8th grade in Fall 2025, who have taken Exam Prep 8 in Spring 2025. During this course, students will: 

• Take weekly full-length simulation tests and experience real test-day pressures 
• Practice reading and verbal skills, and learn test-specific vocabulary 
• Build upon number sense and critical reading literacy to develop strong content mastery 
• Prepare to take the official SSAT and/or ISEE in Fall 2025 

Format: Virtual and in-person at Closter 

Length: 7 weeks, 14 sessions 

HSPT Prep: Test Content Learning 

MEK’s HSPT Prep is for students entering 8th grade in Fall 2025, who are applying to competitive Catholic high schools in the fall. Our goal is not just to get you into these schools, but to get you into them with scholarships. Many MEK students who attend Catholic high schools end up going for free through their scholarships. In 2025 alone, MEK students earned over $290,000 in scholarships!

During this course, students will: 

• Take weekly full-length simulation tests and experience real test-day pressures 
• Practice reading and verbal skills 
• Learn test-specific vocabulary 
• Build upon number sense and critical reading literacy to develop strong content mastery 
• Prepare to take the official HSPT in Fall 2025 

Format: In-Person at Palisades Park and Closter 

Length: 7 weeks, 14 sessions 

MEK’s Results 

At MEK, our goal is to help your children achieve success! Year after year, we’re happy to report that our High School Admissions Prep works. 

In 2024, 38 MEK students were accepted to Bergen County Academies. Currently, 1 in 7 freshmen at Bergen County Academies is an MEK student! 19 MEK students were accepted to Bergen County Technical High School, and 28 MEK students were accepted to the Academies at Englewood. 

So far in 2025, 110 of our MEK students have been invited to the BCA/BT interview. Stay tuned for more updates on our 2025 admissions results! 

Aside from BCA/BT, in 2024 and 2025, our students have been accepted to the following private boarding and day schools: 

• Phillips Academy Andover 
• Phillips Exeter Academy 
• Choate Rosemary Hall 
• Lawrenceville School

• Dwight Englewood School 
• Hackley School 

Also in 2025, MEK students received over $290,000 in scholarships to the following Parochial High Schools:

• Paramus Catholic High School 
• St. Joseph Regional High School 

Not counting the $290,000, we also had three MEK students accepted at Regis High School this year, with full scholarships. Three of our MEK students also received a Mother Caroline Scholarship at the Academy of Holy Angels, and we have seven Presidential Scholars with full rides to Bergen Catholic and Don Bosco Prep!
