What is Fast Track 8 and Why Should My Child Take It?

High School Admissions Fast Track 8 is a virtual course that MEK Review created based on their knowledge of the BCA/BT entrance exam. Our goal is to prepare your child to take the BCA/BT high school admissions exam, but this class will also prepare your child for the HSPT, the ISEE, and the SSAT. These exams, of course, have some significant overlaps in content. With the curriculum of Fast Track 8, combined with our instructors’ expert knowledge of each of these exams, MEK will help guide your child to success!

What is the timeline for these exams?

Bergen County Academies will conduct their admissions exam on November 23rd and 24th, 2024. This exam is only for for 8th graders who already live in Bergen County and are applying for the 2025-2026 school year. The HSPT will be administered in early November. The SSAT and the ISEE have various available test dates between now and January.

What are the main differences between Fast Track 8 and BCA/BT Prep?

The most significant differences between BCA/BT Prep and Fast Track 8 are location (in-person vs. virtual), the main focus of each course, and the amount of lecture and homework time in each.

• Fast Track 8 is entirely virtual, whereas BCA/BT Prep is conducted in-person with a virtual clinic once per week. Fast Track 8 works well for students who have difficulty finding the time to commute back-and-forth.
• Highly content-focused, Fast Track 8 is a great class for those who didn’t learn certain elements of key subjects in school. BCA/BT Prep, on the other hand, is focused mostly on testing strategy.
• Fast Track 8 has a total time commitment of about seven hours per week: five hours of lecture and about two additional hours of homework. BCA/BT Prep has eight hours of lecture per week, with up to an additional four hours of homework per week.

If my child takes Fast Track 8, will they be ready for the BCA/BT entrance exam in November?

This depends on the work that they put in. If they don’t put in the work, they probably won’t be ready. We provide them with all the resources they need for success, but the ultimate element for success lies with the student.

I’m not sure that my child will get into BCA/BT. Is taking Fast Track 8 still worth it?

If you have an MEK student, you’d probably agree that all learning is beneficial. In addition to the general benefit of learning, it also exposes students to the rigors of preparing for difficult exams, something they will have to do again in the near future. This class also provides students experience with the pressure that goes along with taking a challenging, timed test.
