What’s New in Summer 2025: Coding in Python
Summer is a great time for your child to get ahead and sharpen their academic skills. Many students fall behind in the summer and end up struggling when the school year begins. But at MEK, we won’t let that happen! When you plan for a summer at MEK, you can increase your potential and get ahead of the new school year. And if you register by May 2nd, you can get 10% off all summer classes! This summer, we’re offering Coding in Python for 5th to 7th graders!
What Is Coding in Python?
Coding in Python is our brand new, summer-exclusive Intro to Computer Science class for 5th to 7th graders. In seven weeks, students will learn introductory computer science skills using the Python programming language.
What Is Python?
Python is a general-purpose programming language and one of the easiest, most versatile programming languages to learn, which is why it’s a perfect introduction to computer science. Some of the world’s largest companies like Google, Netflix, Amazon, Meta, and more run on Python, and it’s the primary language for many applications.
What Will Your Child Learn in Coding in Python?
Essentially, your child will learn the basics of coding in the Python programming language. In this course, your child can experience the joys of coding through hands-on coding projects and step-by-step in-person lectures. They will develop coding projects using the Python programming language and build an understanding of logical process.
Throughout the 7 weeks, students will complete three projects of varying difficulty. Through those projects, our hope is for your child to develop an appreciation for coding and creativity. This will build the foundation for upper level coding projects, research, and technology. Getting started this early to learn coding will help your child when they get to college. As others are learning the foundations of coding, students who take Coding in Python at a young age will already have already developed those foundations.
Why Learn Coding?
In this day and age, being able to code is an invaluable skill that could open many different doors for your child. STEM jobs are in high demand, and learning to code can lead to future success in that field.
Learning to code also teaches many practical skills including problem-solving, logical reasoning, attention to detail, creativity, critical thinking, and more, while also promoting self-confidence and a lifelong love of learning. All of these skills will no doubt prove beneficial on your child’s academic journey. Here at MEK, we want to equip your child with the skills and strategies necessary for a lifetime of success!
What If Your Child Doesn’t Like Coding?
As important as it is to know what subjects you like and are good at, it’s also important to know what you don’t like. Here at MEK, we encourage our students to try new classes so that they can figure out where their skills lie.
Coding in Python is a 7 week, 7 session class. This means it’s only 7 days in total, making it a great course for your child to simply try out. This way, they’ll know early on if coding is for them.
