High School Honors Math & Science

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The High School Honors Prep Program is designed for incoming 9th graders who want to get ahead before the school year begins. This program introduces key concepts and materials from upcoming honors-level courses, giving students a strong academic foundation. By previewing challenging content early, students can focus on excelling in assignments, tests, and projects during the school year—without the stress of catching up.

PROGRAM OFFERINGS

Advanced English

Focus on essay writing and critical reading using complex texts like poetry, speeches, and short stories. Develop skills in literary analysis, comparative essays, and rhetorical analysis.

  • Duration: Spring 18-20 sessions (90 minutes), Summer 14 sessions (120 minutes)

Algebra 2

Master foundational topics: Functions, Sequences, Polynomials, Rational, Radicals, Exponentials, and Logarithms.

Program Details:

  • Duration: Spring 18-20 sessions (90 minutes), Summer 14 sessions (120 minutes)
  • Format: Hybrid (virtual or in-person)
  • Schedule: Spring and Summer

Analysis 1 – BCTHS

Prepare for Analysis 1 at BCTS with a fast-paced curriculum covering Functions, Inverses, Quadratics, Trigonometry, and Logarithms.

Program Details:

  • Duration: Summer 14 sessions (120 minutes)
  • Format: Hybrid (virtual or in-person)
  • Schedule: Summer

Geometry

Explore angles, shapes, congruency, similarity, and trigonometry and learn to apply postulates, theorems, and proofs.

  • Duration: Spring 18-20 sessions (90 minutes), Summer 14 sessions (120 minutes)

Pre-Calculus

Topics include Trigonometry, Vectors, and Matrices.

Matches Advanced Analysis 2 (BCTHS) and Hyper Math 9 (Dwight Englewood)

Biology

Study cell structure, genetics, evolution, ecology, and human biology.

Build skills to analyze life from molecular to organismal levels.

Chemistry

Learn atomic structure, bonding, periodic trends, and molecular diagrams.

Foundation for medical and chemical sciences.

Physics

Topics include Motion, Forces, and real-world applications.

Advanced Math Topics

For students who’ve mastered Algebra 1 and Geometry, focus on abstract reasoning and competition-style math problems. The course includes logic and proof-based content.

Full Year Spearhead Program (FYSH)

Stay ahead of the curve. Stand out in the classroom.

The FYSH Program is MEK’s full-year academic support system for high school students (Grades 9–12) enrolled in Honors-level courses. It runs parallel to school curricula, helping students learn key concepts 2–3 weeks ahead of their classroom schedule. This proactive approach allows students to focus on mastering material, excelling in assessments, and boosting their GPA.

Key features:

  • Available Subjects : FYSH Algebra 2, FYSH Geometry and FYSH Pre-Calculus
  • Extra problem sets for students to hone their understanding of the course material
  • Lectures recorded and posted to the Canvas Learning Management platform for students to review at any point within the course
  • Cumulative tests every 4-5 weeks

  • Schedule and frequency: FYSH programs span two semesters–the Fall and Spring (37 sessions per subject)
  • Session Length: 90 min
