College Essay Summer Workshop
Starting July 6, 2021, MEK Review is introducing our College Essay Summer Workshop!
Our College Essay Summer Workshop guides students to writing compelling, polished college application essays.
In this workshop, small groups of students meet in a virtual setting with our expert essay coaches to learn how to find their voice, write about their unique experiences, and impress college admissions officers with a memorable essay.

Workshop A & Workshop B
These two workshops are for students who already know that they will be applying to competitive colleges such as Ivy Leagues or top 30 schools.
Candidates for this program will be determined by initial complimentary consultation with our academic counselors. Students are grouped into Workshop A or Workshop B according to their college application plans. They then have the benefit of working with peers who are interested in the same colleges.
Students interested in Workshop A & B can also request a College List Consultation to work with our expert academic counselors on creating an optimal list of prospective colleges. Each meeting is $250/hour and by request only.
Students in Workshop A & B meet for 3 hours, twice a week, for a total of 16 sessions.
Common App Workshop
For students who want to work only on their Common Application essay, this workshop meets for 3 hours, once a week, for 4-8 sessions.
Public University Application Essay Workshop
Public universities often use a different application portal than Common App, for example, the Coalition Application. The prompts are different from Common Application essay prompts and have a far different scope.
This workshop is for students who already know they will apply to public universities only, and therefore can use one application to cover many public universities. Students meet for 3 hours, once a week, for 4-8 sessions.
Supplemental Essay Workshop
This workshop doesn’t begin until August, so students have time to work on their Common Application, first. Each session of this workshop will focus on one of the most common supplemental essay topics (e.g. Why our school?) and how to write the best response. Students meet for 3 hours, once a week, for 4 sessions.
Lasting Impact
Often by meeting with our expert academic counselors and our college essay coaches, students have an experience that goes beyond just writing a stellar application essay. Along the way, they gain valuable insight into their passions, strengths, and talents.
This only further improves your college essays, as the best college application essay is one that is honest and sincere. While many students may have similar experiences in community services or extracurricular activities, it is your unique insight into your community and the world that makes you stand out.
At MEK, we show you how to tap into that unique insight, how to most effectively express yourself, and even support your courage in tackling complex topics.
This lasting impact can best be demonstrated through a real life example of a recent MEK student.
Matthew’s Story
Matthew had perfect test scores and perfect grades, but he didn’t have many extracurricular activities. His main hobby was gardening. During his meeting with our head academic counselor, Ann Ahn, she suggested that he gather young students together and show them how plants grow through water and sunlight. She likened it to the children’s book The Gardner.
He took her advice, wrote about the experience in his college application essays, and was accepted to top colleges such as Cornell, Drexel, University of Southern California, Northeastern, Brandeis, Boston University, University of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania State, UIUC, and more.
But even more importantly, he tapped into a huge philanthropic passion. Here’s what his parents wrote to our counselor:
“We are very excited for him and would like to thank also for your most valuable advice in how to approach his application strategy and extracurricular activities. After he processed our conversation he decided to dedicate his time to community service initiative he founded with the mission to grow and donate fresh produce to the local families in need through the partnership of high schoolers with local gardeners. It was so successful that he decided to register it as a non-profit organization and it continues growing and bringing positive change to our community. Not sure if you remember but during our meeting with you – you came to a conclusion that Matthew is a sharing and caring boy.”
So he named his NPO The Sharing Project and he really enjoys leading it and helping those in need. If you have a moment please check their website thesharingproject2020.org
We are beyond grateful to you for taking time and making such an amazing impact on Matthew’s success with his college application. THANK YOU from all of us!”
This is just one example of how MEK uses our experience and guidance to help students on the path to not only college, but also life!
