And some scholarships even help you network, which will come in handy when you’re looking for internships or jobs after college.

Read on to find out the answers to the most frequently asked questions about applying for scholarships!

1. I did not qualify for FAFSA. Can I still apply for scholarships?

Yes! Even if your family did not qualify for FAFSA, there are still a number of ways you can receive financial aid. Some scholarships are need-based, however there are still a large number of merit-based scholarships. Some scholarships are awarded based on your academic interest or athleticism. Therefore, do not be discouraged if you did not qualify for a particular scholarship. As long as you do the research, there will always be a scholarship to apply for.

2. Is there a limit to how many scholarships I can apply to?

No! As long as you are able to manage your scholarship application deadlines, there is no limit to the amount of scholarships you can apply for. Just remember to keep the deadlines in mind, and give yourself ample time to write the application essays.

3. Is it worth applying to scholarships?

Although the scholarship amount might be considerably smaller than the annual tuition of your school, it is still worth the effort to apply. Every dollar awarded for your college education counts!

4. Can I reuse my scholarship applications?

Yes and no! The essay is a very important part of your scholarship application. Therefore, it is crucial that you answer the prompt carefully. Just like how you reused your supplemental essays for different schools, you may do the same for your scholarship essays. However, keep in mind that your essay needs to answer the prompt, fit the word count, and uphold the values of the organization that is awarding the scholarship. You are trying to stand out from the competition. If you are planning to recycle your scholarship essays, do so carefully.
