MEK Review’s School Support Tutoring FAQ
MEK Review’s School Support Tutoring FAQ
At MEK, we’re known for our exceptional School Support tutoring services. Some believe that tutoring is only for students who are struggling in their classes. But that can’t be farther from the truth!
In fact, now more than ever, GPA has become a major deciding factor in high school and college admissions, especially with some colleges and universities remaining SAT and ACT “test-optional”. College admissions officers are looking deeply into students’ classroom grades.
So, what can tutoring do for your child?
Read on to learn the answers to your frequently asked questions about tutoring!
What is School Support Tutoring?
MEK’s School Support Tutoring is the perfect one-on-one tutoring program for students looking to excel in school. Expert instructors give students strong foundational skills, reinforcement exercises to retain concepts, and a professionally proctored Independent Study Hall, as needed.
What is the MEK School Support Tutoring strategy?
School Support Tutoring is all about classroom success. But what does MEK give you that other tutoring centers don’t?
Certified Expert Instructors
All MEK instructors are certified educators with years of classroom experience. Our instructors know classrooms and the proven lessons and strategies lead to student success. So, you can expect excellence from all of our professional instructors.
A Personalized and Actionable Plan for Success
Tutoring is not a one size fits all experience. Our tutors, along with administrators and counselors, work closely with students to pinpoint areas of academic weakness and provide the support that students need to make that weakness a strength. By discussing a student’s individual needs and reviewing their course syllabus and assignments, we are able to create a customized plan to help them reach their goals.
One-on-One Support
MEK tailors your experience with an MEK tutor to your specific needs. That means scheduling, pacing, and the structure of your tutoring sessions are dictated by what you need.
Need to review a lesson? No problem! Need more challenging problems to solve? Your tutor has them! School Support Tutoring is all about working with your current course syllabus to get you where you need to be and beyond.
How long will it take for my child to see progress?
We recommend students commit to at least 5 sessions with a progress check-in after your third tutoring session. Counselor meetings are available through Zoom or in-person at our Palisades Park or Closter campus. During this meeting, one of our counselors will walk you through your child’s progress, their areas for improvement, and next steps.
How can I check my child’s School Support Tutoring progress?
We use our Canvas platform to track student progress. Here you can view grades, assignments, assessments, and even communicate with your child’s tutor. You’ll receive all the information you need to do so upon registration.
MEK’s School Support Tutoring gives students the tools to make constant progress and maintain it. After all, the most important part in any learning progress is maintenance.

Step 2: Student Consultation for Individualized Tutoring Plan
If you are interested in School Support Tutoring, you will schedule a consultation with one of our expert academic counselors. You will be asked to provide the following materials before the consultation so our academic counselors can plan accordingly:
- Report cards or print-outs of your grade management portal (i.e. PowerSchool, Genesis, Skyward)
- A clear idea of your academic goals!
Step 3: Scheduling
Based on the information given and the goals discussed during the consultation, our academic counselors will design your Individualized Tutoring Plan with personalized milestones. These milestones will give light to the number and frequency of sessions, any specific weekly goals or performance indicators, and regular Simulation Tests and/or Independent Study Hall times as needed.
Independent Study Hall
Not all tutoring students require Independent Study Hall. However, it has proved helpful in giving students a structured time to complete assessments and assignments to reinforce their learning in the tutoring session. During Independent Study Hall, you will log into a Zoom meeting, where a proctor is waiting for you. The proctor will make sure that you are completing the work that your tutor has assigned, within the time that they specified. The proctor will also be available to answer any logistical questions you may have about your tutoring session.
Please note, you can add Independent Study Hall to your tutoring package at an additional cost. However, this service is free with our current tutoring promotion, Perfect GPA Event: February Tutoring Sale.
Virtual vs. In-Person Tutoring
MEK offers two methods of tutoring for School Support Tutoring: virtual and in-person. Our virtual tutoring sessions are hosted on Zoom and facilitated by Canvas so that students can meet with their tutors in live sessions and communicate with them between sessions as needed.
