MEK Review’s Advanced English is a course for 8th grade students looking to prepare for challenging high school honors courses. Throughout the course, expert instructors help students learn valuable essay writing skills, hone their ability to interpret a variety of texts, and become comfortable with writing different types of essays.
In order to register for MLC Advanced English, students in grade 8 must have previously completed our BCA Prep program and shown evidence of good study habits and a strong work ethic.
Students meet in small groups with their instructor via a live, virtual class once a week for 9 weeks. Each session is 90 minutes in length.
MLC Advanced English is all about preparing your child to excel in their tough, high school honors English and Humanities courses through strengthening their essay writing and honing their ability to analyze and interpret a variety of texts.
Our expert instructors introduce students to narrative, persuasive, comparative literary analysis, rhetorical analysis, and research essay writing and give students the strategies to master writing each of those essay types. Students will also learn essential grammar and writing skills, such as how to support claims with textual evidence and how to use MLA format.
MLC Advanced English is more than just a course aimed at preparing 8th graders for high school. The reading and writing skills students learn throughout the program will help them become independent, critical thinkers, who have the confidence to tackle any problem with a creative solution.
Through MLC Advanced English, your child will become comfortable expressing themselves through writing, using elevated vocabulary, and citing researched sources in their essays. These skills are the essential building blocks of classroom success, both in high school and college, and the foundation for writing impressive college admissions essays.
