What is MLC Advanced Verbal Reasoning?
MEK Review’s Advanced Verbal Reasoning is a course for 6th and 7th grade students looking to get a head start on preparing for high school admissions tests, such as the SSAT, ISEE, and BCA exams. Throughout the course, expert instructors help students build vocabulary and reading comprehension skills, learn proven test-taking strategies, and cultivate a strong mindset for tackling tough exams in timed settings.
What’s the criteria for taking the course?
Students in grades 6 and 7 must have previously completed our MLC Critical Reading course for their respective grade level with essay scores of 4 or higher, or received a 70% on both the Writing and Reading sections of the MEK Student Evaluation.
What does a typical class look like?
Students meet in small groups with their instructor via a live, virtual class once a week for 9 weeks. Each session is 90 minutes in length.
The following is a breakdown of what a typical class looks like:
Class Format (90 mins):
- 15 mins: Reading Homework Review
- 15 mins: Reading Lesson
- 20 mins: Reading Passages; 2 per session; 10 mins per passage
- 20 mins: Verbal Lesson and Review Verbal Homework
- 20 mins: Vocab Quiz and Review
What are some examples of the types of questions my child will learn about during class?
MLC Advanced Verbal Reasoning is all about preparing your child to answer tough reading passage and verbal reasoning questions on the high school admissions exams. Instructors teach step-by-step strategies for how to identify and answer each question type that your child will encounter on the day of the test.
